Biography »

Istvan was born 1949, in the center of Europe in Budapest. He developed an interest in art in early childhood, but poor financial conditions forced

him to learn the craft by himself.

In 1979 Istvan fled to Sweden from comunist-occupied Hungary and has been living in Gothenburg (on the west coast) and in recent years;Borås.

His work was mainly exhibited in the mid 90's and 2001-2003, and several pieces can be found throughout europe, including Finland, England, Belgium, Hungary  and Italy.

Materials of choice are usually Marble, clay (ceramics), plaster or wood. Motives vary greatly from local celebrities, fotballplayers, politicians to close friends.

Inspiration comes mostly from the nature itself or his inner mood. In life, Istvan often travels abroad, speaks four languages and has a great interest in buddhism and foreign cultures.

Among the greatest moments as a sculptor was the 2005 exhibition in London (Society of portrait sculptors), with the portrait of Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren. The most recent portrait, that of Maria Montessori, was sold in January 2007 to the school by the same name.
